The Holistic Steps to Supporting Children & Young People

What if understanding behaviour wasn’t complicated…
but finally made sense?

The Holistic Steps to Supporting Children & Young People is our flagship 5-day programme, designed for professionals who want to move beyond surface-level strategies and truly understand the humans in front of them.

This is more than training. It’s a shift in perspective.

A 5-day professional development journey designed to transform how you understand behaviour, communication, and emotional wellbeing.

This programme takes you beyond surface-level strategies — helping you understand what’s really driving behaviour from early development through to the teenage years.

Through a simple, practical, and engaging approach, we explore:

  • The foundations of behaviour and attachment
  • The teenage brain and development
  • Understanding and regulating emotions
  • Communication that truly connects
  • Applying it all to your role, setting, and real-life challenges

 What Makes It Different

Some things will confirm what you already know.
Others will completely shift how you see the people you support.

The Outcome – You’ll leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more confident — with practical tools and a deeper understanding that changes how you show up every day.

Single Bookings

We offer a range of training days. There are full day, half day and twilight session options.  Webinar options are also available.                       Here are some of our most popular…

It Starts with the Egg

This course considers conception to age 2 and the role these early years have on a baby’s developing brain.  The course looks at healthy development as well as the impact of toxic stress and the potential long-term effects this can have on the child’s ability to regulate their emotions and the behaviour we might see as a result.  The course looks at simple things that both professionals and parents can do to encourage healthy development.  It also looks at ways we can support those children/young people who may have experienced toxic stress in their early years.

The Terrific Two’s

This course looks at challenging the stereotype of the ‘terrible twos’ by considering what is happening in the toddler’s brain.  It supports participants to see toddlers through a different lens and offers practical, simple ideas for supporting them during this rapid period of development.  From oppositional behaviour to their drive to explore the world around them this course is ideal for professionals working with this age group and also parents who are navigating this time in their young child’s life.

Small People, Big Feelings

This course focuses on the emotional development of our little people.  It looks at the underdeveloped thinking brain and how this impacts a child’s experience of emotions.  It considers the intensity of emotions that young children feel and how this has a direct impact on both their behaviour and their ability to communicate with us.  Participants who attend this course will be left with a greater understanding of the emotional experiences of young children.  They will also have a range of simple tools they can use to support children to feel safer when they are experiencing their big feelings.

This course is specifically targeted at professionals who are working with children aged 5 and below.  The course compliments both the ‘Understanding Emotions’ and ‘Terrific Two’s’ course though there is no requirement to have attended those courses to attend this one.  Parents of young children would also benefit from attending this course.

Right Here, Right Now: Mindfulness for Children

Numerous studies have demonstrated the positive impact mindfulness has on memory, concentration and positive mental health. This course challenges the stereotypical perception of mindfulness by considering the many different types of mindful practices that can be incorporated into our daily lives.  This course guides participants to the realisation that young children are innately mindful and that part of our role is to create the environment whereby they can experience this. By stepping into their world we discover brains that are primed for learning and exploration. Participants who attend this course will be left with a range of simple, fun activities they can use to introduce mindfulness to children’s lives. Professionals have the opportunity to reap the benefits of mindfulness themselves when it is explored in this way.

.

My Inner Voice

The way we speak to ourselves is the very foundation of our mental health, our behaviour and our life choices.  Self-talk is the basis of how we perceive the world and our place in it.  This course explores the many factors that shape a child’s core inner belief system and in turn their inner voice.  Participants who attend this course will be left with an understanding of a child’s ‘internal working model’ and the role they can play in influencing this.  This will include a range of practical strategies they can use to support children to make their inner voice a friendly one.

The Teenage Brain

The importance of the early years in terms of brain development is widely known.  However, it is less well known that the teenage years offer the second window of opportunity for influencing/supporting the developing brain.  This course looks at how the changes that are happening to the brain during adolescence go some way in explaining many of the behaviours commonly associated with this age group.  This includes risky behaviour choices, pressure from peers, changes in sleep patterns and the vulnerability of their self-esteem.  Participants attending this course will be left with a range of simple strategies that can be used to support young people during this key period.

Understanding Emotions

Underneath every behaviour we observe is the emotion that is fueling it.

The ability to understand and express emotion is fundamental to wellbeing.  Emotions affect the way you communicate, the ability to form and maintain healthy relationships and perhaps, most crucially, your relationship with yourself.

This course focuses on three levels.  Firstly, it supports participants to explore the role emotions play in their own lives.  This is important as self awareness is key to emotional regulation.  Secondly, it helps participants gain confidence in supporting children and young people with their emotions through the use of coaching methods.  Finally, the course looks at how participants can empower children and young people to increase their emotional literacy and develop their own emotional toolkit.  This helps them know what to do when faced with some of the more uncomfortable emotions like anger, anxiety and sadness.  Participants who attend this course are left with the understanding that focusing on behaviour itself is ineffective and that a more holistic approach allows space for a more regulated child.

Understanding Anxiety

This course provides participants with an opportunity to look at anxiety in more depth.  The course considers what anxiety is and the impact it has on children (and adults) both physically, emotionally, and mentally (short term and long term).  It looks at the close link between anxiety and control and considers what we can do to support children who are displaying control seeking behaviours.

Me and My Nervous System

This course delves deeper into wellbeing, moving away from the tokenistic ‘don’t forget to practice self-care once a week’ approach and considers what true wellbeing actually looks like.  It looks at the impact of stress and how this can affect us physically, mentally and emotionally.  It considers the importance of self-care and identifies different things we can do to help ourselves.  This includes a look at scientifically backed approaches to how we can ‘re-tune’ a nervous system that has been experiencing stress.  Participants who attend this course will be left with an understanding of their own nervous system and a number of things they can practically incorporate into a busy lifestyle in order to support their own wellbeing.

Me and My Mind

This course is aimed as a follow on to the increasingly popular ‘Me and My Nervous System’ and looks into understanding how our mind works.  The course looks at ways our mind can sabotage us, how we can get stuck in the worry trap and why we develop unhelpful biases.  This course helps us reflect on the thought patterns and beliefs we hold and challenges any that we deem unhelpful.  Participants who attend this course will come away with helpful tools they can use to increase their self-awareness, think more effectively, and feel more motivated.  This is not a positive thinking course which in itself can be detrimental to our mental health.  This is a course about learning to understand how our mind works so that we can work with it rather than feeling like we are in a battle.

Me and My Boundaries

Emotional boundaries are how we show ourselves self-worth, self-love and respect.  Knowing our own limits is a fundamental part of our own self-care.  This course looks at the importance of boundaries and why setting boundaries can be difficult for some people.  It looks at the link boundaries have with our self-esteem with consideration of the wider picture of our personal values.  Participants who attend this course will be left with a greater insight into what is important for them and practical ways they can use this knowledge to protect their own wellbeing by finding the confidence to set healthy limits for themselves.

Mindful Me - Mindfulness for Adults

In this course we look at how the practice of mindfulness can be used to help regulate our body and our mind.  Mindfulness comes in many different forms and coupled with the knowledge of the nervous system this course looks to support participants to identify practices that would best suit their lifestyle.  Participants who attend this course will be left with a better understanding of the benefits of mindfulness and a wide range of practices they can use to feel more in control through the calming of the nervous system and the busy mind.

Reasons for Professional Development

Knowledge

We believe the right knowledge changes everything. We translate complex ideas about the brain, behaviour, and nervous system into simple, practical understanding that professionals can actually use. When people truly understand what’s driving behaviour — in themselves and others — they respond with clarity, confidence, and compassion, creating more effective, supportive, and human-centred environments.

Reflection

We create space for meaningful reflection — the ability to pause, process, and make sense of experiences. By guiding professionals to look beneath behaviour and consider their own responses, we deepen understanding and self-awareness. Reflection strengthens decision-making, builds emotional intelligence, and supports sustainable practice, helping professionals respond thoughtfully rather than reactively in everyday situations.

Regulation

We help professionals understand and develop emotional regulation — the ability to recognise, manage, and respond to thoughts, feelings, and stress in a balanced way. Through practical tools and nervous system awareness, we support calmer environments, clearer thinking, and stronger relationships. When regulation improves, so does communication, decision-making, and the capacity to support others effectively.

Confidence

We help professionals build genuine confidence — not from scripts or fixed responses, but from deep understanding. When you know why behaviour happens and how to respond, uncertainty fades. This confidence allows professionals to stay calm, think clearly, and act with purpose, creating stronger relationships and more consistent, supportive environments for those in their care.

Tools

We equip professionals with simple, practical tools that can be used immediately in real-world situations. These strategies support communication, regulation, and connection — not just in theory, but in everyday practice. When professionals feel confident in what to do and how to respond, they create safer, more consistent environments where both they and those they support can thrive.

Energy

We recognise that the energy professionals bring into a space shapes everything. We support individuals to protect, understand, and manage their energy, reducing burnout and increasing presence. When energy is balanced, professionals feel more resilient, engaged, and effective — creating environments that feel calm, safe, and positive for everyone involved.

About our Professional Development

Our professional development goes beyond training staff in what to do — we focus on helping them understand the why. We believe the highest quality training inspires and empowers professionals to do better. With a greater understanding of the nervous system, human needs and the systems that are at play in each of our lives confident, consistent decision‑making follows naturally.

Our delivery is calm, engaging, light and rooted in the real‑world. We bridge neuroscience, trauma‑informed practice and lived experience, translating complex ideas into clear, practical insight that staff can immediately recognise in themselves and the young people they support. This creates a shared language across staff and teams, it strengthens confidence and practice, and reduces reactive approaches that ‘raise the flood’.

Rather than prescribing strategies, we equip professionals with understanding. This shift is powerful. When staff feel informed, regulated, and empowered, they move from fire fighting with ‘behaviour management’ to creating environments where connection and learning is accessible. We arm participants with an arsenal of tools and approaches that can be used for both their own emotional regulation and that of their learners.

Leaders regularly tell us our sessions leave teams feeling clearer, aligned, and re‑energised — with insight that continues to shape practice long after the training ends.
